Important information on cleaning compensator taps
a special cleaning adapter is required for cleaning compensator taps.
these adapters vary depending on the manufacturer and are often marked with an SK number.
there are two standard sizes: 28 mm or 30 mm threads.
how to determine the correct adapter size:
- Loosen the front part of the tap at the wing nut
- Measure the external thread of the removed part
- If you are unsure, we offer suitable adapters in our shop.

Cleaning instructions for taps
Tap design: Modern 2-piece compensator taps or piston taps
Step-by-step instructions:
Preparing the connecting hoses:
- Insert the two 10 mm grommets into the 5/8" union nuts
- Now slide the two Unex clamps over the hose
- Then insert the grommet into the hose and tighten the part with the clamp. To secure the grommets, you can warm the hose slightly beforehand.
Connecting the hoses to the tap handles:
- With modern tap designs, now connect the cleaning adapter end of the connecting hose to the tap
- The other end of the connecting hose is attached to the cellar connector (with double thread 5/8")
- You can now screw your beer line onto the opposite side of the cellar connector.
Preparing the cleaning process:
- Place a cleaning sponge or a Bevi Tab (alkaline or acidic) in the adapter sight glass
- Place the waste hose in a water drain or bucket to drain off excess cleaning solution.
Performing the cleaning:
- open the tap and let the cleaning solution run through the pipes
- Close the tap again as soon as the cleaning sponge with the blue or red cleaning solution reaches the opposite adapter sight glass
- Leave the solution to work for approx. 15 minutes to thoroughly clean the pipes
- after the application time, open the tap again and rinse with fresh water to remove any cleaning residue.
Additional information for multiple taps:
If you want to clean two taps, connect both connecting hoses to the two cleaning adapters to create a "bridge." This allows both taps to be cleaned at the same time.
Dispenser tap design: Old single-piece swivel taps / chicken taps
For old swivel taps or cock taps, proceed as follows:
Connecting the hoses:
- The two connecting hoses can be pushed directly onto the 10 mm outlets of the swivel taps
- Tighten them with the Unex clamps.
Cleaning procedure:
The cleaning process is otherwise the same as for modern dispensing taps, except that the hoses do not need to be secured additionally.
